ARDAY GÉZA
Literary historian, writer, teacher
Welcome to my website!
I was born in Budapest on the 4 February 1973. I grew up in the still beautiful Zugló where I completed my primary and secondary schools. I went to the Elementary School of Miskolci út (rd.) which was later named after Attila József, and then graduated from the Gábor Egressy Vocational Secondary School in 1991.
I consciously enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, which opened after the regime change in 1990. Here I studied Hungarian language and literature and graduated as a teacher. I have also attended several semesters at the departments of law, Dutch language and aesthetics. Already in the last year of my studies I obtained a special permission from the University and so I started teaching at the private Austrian school on Istenhegyi út (rd.). Later, I have taught for years at the Europa 2000 High School in Zugló.
I enjoyed teaching very much and the love of my students secured a happy time. I think that without this experience my life would have been poorer. I might return to teaching at a later stage of my life.
For many years I have worked in five different ministries as civil servant in various capacities. Unfortunately, this work did not bring any joy or good times to my life because of the many human and professional disappointments. In this stage I relied on my spiritual stability and intellectual independence in order to avoid the Nietzschean saying „he who fights monsters becomes a monster himself”. I barely managed to escape!
In addition to my day-to-day job, I spent a significant part of my free time on writing essays, studies, reviews, and books which made my life fulfilling. The joy of creating still inspires my spirituality and gives me mental comfort and human satisfaction to this day.
I agree with Sándor Petőfi, as I do not want to live in peace with the world, but with myself. Furthermore, I have known for a long time that life is dangerous, and the less so, it is less of a life. I try to live in such a way that my activities as a literary historian and writer are given preference.
I wish you a fruitful browsing!
