Short description:
Hungarian literature is written, published, judged and read not only in Hungary, but also abroad: by writers who lived in the Carpathian Basin, and even once in exile: in Western Europe and overseas.
The purpose and aim of my collection work over several years was to present each life-work-achievement, creation and phenomenon significant from the point of view of emigration and literature. All of the collected writings – independent of each other – but related in terms of their subject matter, summarize and describe the life journeys of emigrant poets, writers and translators.
The volume is decorated with photos taken from Sárospatak, which is no accident, because this city has become one of the receivers and guardians of the legacies of a couple of former emigrant artists. On the initiative and cooperation of Professor Kálmán Újszászy, the huge library of László Cs. Szabó found its home. The legacy (heritage) of Lajos Szathmáry, which returned home from America.
In the courtyard of the dormitory, a bench decorated with a bronze plaque also commemorates the former Pataki student. Cs. László Szabó and István Rácz mourn their eternal sleep in the old, hundreds-year-old Reformed cemetery. These come to life in album-like photos.
The materials of studies, essays, reviews and lectures serve to present a part of Western Hungarian literature. The writings and the characters in them confirm the famous saying of Áron Tamási, which he said during his visit to London, according to which: no matter on which hill the shepherd stands, his eyes are on the same flock.
It was with this perspective that I launched this volume – in 2009 – with my writings about various people who create culture.
